COMMUNITY
At Western, we take very seriously the welfare of our employees and our
responsibility to contribute to our local community.
In 2009, we developed Coalisland's first Business Park, offering small
local businesses a low-cost accommodation option, enabling them to
provide skilled employment to people in the area.
Also in 2009, we undertook some restoration work on Western House, site
of the town's old bank and a listed building. Now restored to its
former grandeur, Western House accommodates several local charities,
including Lilac (Living is Life After Cancer) and The Niamh Louise
Foundation, and is growing in reputation as a much needed centre of
healthy living in Coalisland.
We have a long-standing commitment to supporting local sport. In recent
years, we have sponsored Derriaghy Cricket Club, and closer to home, we
have provided support to local GAA team Brocagh Emmetts.
Undoubtedly the major highlight of our corporate social responsibility
programme was our Gala Charity Ball which was organised to coincide with
our 25th anniversary. The event attracted 300 prominent local and
national business people, and raised £34,000 for two charities, Trocaire
and Fields of Life.
